Sadami YOKOTE : the church of Vétheuil in Nagasaki

Sadami Yokote is a Japanese figurative painter belonging to the school known as "yo ga", which means Japanese painting of Western style.

He belongs to the generation of young Japanese painters who frequented Montparnasse between the wars, such as Fujita and Takanori Oguiss who were strongly influenced by Utrillo. Sadami Yokote arrived in France in 1929, at the age of 30, and died there two years later in circumstances that remain mysterious.

He made several paintings on Vétheuil the year of his arrival: "Landscape in Vétheuil", "the hill beside the mill" and the church of Vétheuil.

Most of his works were done in Paris later: they represent the picturesque streets of the capital (Montmartre, the rue d'Alésia, the book dealers, ...). He also painted portraits and still lifes.

His works are exhibited by the Nagasaki Prefectural Museum in Japan which owns the painting of the church of Vétheuil and the two self-portraits.
