FAQ

Who owns the church in Vétheuil?

Since the Concordat of 1801 between Bonaparte and the Holy See, the rule has been that France's cathedrals are the exclusive property of the State, while its churches are the property of the communes. Exceptions are churches built after the 1905 law (Separation of Church and State) or private property.
The church in Vétheuil therefore belongs to the municipality of Vétheuil, and is under the responsibility of the Mayor during his term of office. The municipality grants the use of the church to the pastoral sector of Magny-en-Vexin (Diocese of Pontoise) for the celebration of religious services.
